No. 20 Michigan to meet Arizona State for the championship of the Vivid Seats Legends Classic presented by Old Trapper

BROOKLYN, N.Y. – No. 20 Michigan and Arizona State will vie for the championship of the Vivid Seats Legends Classic presented by Old Trapper at Barclays Center.

Michigan advanced by virtue of its 91-60 win over Pittsburgh. Jett Howard led all scorers with 17 points and was one of four Wolverines to tally double figures. Kobe Bufkin scored 14 points to go with four assists, Joey Baker also netted 14 points, and Hunter Dickinson had 11 points and five assists while Dug McDaniel posted eight points and eight assists.

With the Michigan up 38-32 at the intermission, the Wolverines outscored the Panthers 53-28 in the second half, sparked by a 31-14 in the first 10 minutes of the second half to put Michigan up 69-46. The lead grew to as many as 32 (83-51, 4:27 remaining) before the final margin was determined.

Pitt was led by the 14-point effort of Jamarius Burton. Blake Hinson had 13 points and six rebounds and Greg Elliott added 12 points.

The Wolverines will meet Arizona State for the championship after the Sun Devils downed VCU, 63-59.

Trailing 35-28 at the half, ASU held VCU to just 4-of-23 shooting from the field in the second half, including 1-of-9 from 3-point range to complete the comeback.

Former Wolverine Frankie Collins led the Sun Devils with 15 points to go with six rebounds and four assists. DJ Horne had 12 points and seven rebounds and Austin Nunez had 10 points.

Michigan will be making its second appearance in the Legends Classic title game. In 2014, the Wolverines, then ranked No. 19, dropped a 60-55 decision to No. 12 Villanova. Arizona State is also making its second appearance, having played for the title in 2015 and falling to Marquette, 78-73.

Wednesday’s schedule begins at 7:00pm with VCU taking on Pitt, followed by Michigan vs. Arizona State. Both games can be seen on ESPN2. Tickets for the games may be purchased at SeatGeek.com
