Home Teams Emerge Victorious in GotPrint.com Legends Classic presented by Old Trapper

The home teams all emerged victorious on a busy night in the GotPrint.com Legends Classic presented by Old Trapper.

In Queens, Mustapha Heron and Shamorie Ponds combined for 47 points as St. John’s fought back from an 11-point second half deficit to defeat Bowling Green, 84-80, at Carnesecca Arena.

Heron led all scorers with 26 points on 8-of-16 shooting from the field. He also posted a game-best six rebounds. Ponds scored 16 second half point en route to totaling 21 on the night. Marvin Clark II tallied 15 points and LJ Figueroa had 11 points.

Bowling Green shot 50 percent from the field, including 11-of-23 from 3-point range, and led 51-40 with 16:24 to play. The Falcons were paced in scoring by Justin Turner and his 24 points. Dylan Frye had 18 points, Antwon Lillard scored 13 points, and Demajeo Wiggins posted 12 points and 12 rebounds.

In Philadelphia, Shizz Alston Jr. (pictured) made seven 3-pointers in scoring a career-high 30 points to lead Temple to an 83-67 win over Detroit Mercy.

A 17-0 run in the second half solidified the Owls’ victory. In addition to Alston’s career-high, Quinton Rose scored 17 points, Nate Pierre-Louis had 10 points, and Ernest Aflakpui recorded eight points and eight rebounds.

The Titans were led by Andre Davis and his 30 points, which included connecting on his first three shots to put Detroit Mercy up 13-2 to start the game. Josh McFolley had 17 points and six assists and Chris Brandon added 15 points and nine rebounds. The Titans connected on 50 percent of their field goals in the first half to take a 41-37 lead into intermission.

In Richmond, VCU built a 25-point lead with 9:31 to play only to see it shrink to seven points 5:25 later before emerging with a 69-57 win over Hampton.

Marcus Santos-Silva led the Rams with 16 points while Marcus Evans came off the bench to net 13 points.

Up 56-31, VCU looked like it was in total control of the game. However, the Pirates felt differently as they mounted a comeback which saw them cut the lead to seven, 57-50, when Kalin Fisher connected on three free throws with 4:06 to play. Marcus Evans immediately hit a 3-pointer to move the lead to 10 and the Rams never looked back.

Jermaine Morrow led everyone with 25 points for Hampton. Amazingly, he drew nine fouls in the game and went 12-of-14 from the line. Fisher ended the game with nine points.

The GotPrint.com Legends Classic presented by Old Trapper continues on Monday with VCU hosting Bowling Green.

St. John’s, Temple, VCU, and California will travel to Brooklyn to participate in the Championship Rounds of the GotPrint.com Legends Classic presented by Old Trapper. The Red Storm will meet the Bears while the Owls take on the Rams, their former Atlantic 10 foe, in the semifinal round on Monday, Nov. 19 at Barclays Center. The consolation and championship games will then be played on Tuesday, Nov. 20.
