Aggies Take Progressive Legends Classic Title

Duane Wilson scored 22 points and handed out six assists and Roberts Williams scored 21 points and had 10 rebounds to lead No. 16 Texas A&M to a 98-87 win over Penn State in the Championship Game of the Progressive Legends Classic.
The win moves the Aggies to 4-0 on the year while the Nittany Lions drop to 5-1.
In a game that saw 11 lead changes and eight ties, Texas A&m built a lead that peaked at 17, 70-53, with 12:09 to play. A&M then turned the ball over on its next three possessions to allow the Nittany Lions the opportunity to get back in it. However, the closest Penn State would get was six points.
Tyler Davis had a strong second half for A&M and ended the game with 15 points. Admon Gilder tallied 14 points, and Tonny Trocha-Morelos had 11 points.
Penn State was led by Tony Carr, who scored 21 points in the first half and ended the game with 31. Lamar Stevens registered 25 points, seven rebounds, and five assists.
In the consolation game, Jeffrey Carroll scored 29 points to lead Oklahoma State to a 73-67 win over Pittsburgh.
Carroll, who was 2-of-12 the night before in a loss to Texas A&M, rebounded with a 10-of-17 effort from the field, including 2-of-5 from three, as well as 7-of-7 from the foul line. He also pulled down nine rebounds and had three assists.
Thomas Dziagwa also reached double figures with 12 points on 4-of-7 shooting from three.
Williams was named the tournament’s most valuable player. He was joined on the All-Tournament team by Wilson, Carr, Stevens, and Carroll.
In addition to the Championship Rounds, the Subregional Rounds were played at Pepperdine where UCSB won the Subregional championship.
The Gauchos shot 56 percent from the field to take an 80-73 decision from Montana to claim the crown. Max Heidegger led all scorers with 27 points en route to most valuable player honors. Leland King II tallied 20 points, Jalen Canty had 12 points and 10 rebounds, and Marcus Jackson had 10 points and five assists.
Ahmaad Rorie led Montana with 20 points and six assists. Michael Oguine posted 14 points and six rebounds, Jamar Akoh had 12 points, and Karl Nicholas scored 10 points.
In the consolation match, Pepperdine came back from a 15-point deficit to defeat Oral Roberts, 80-76.
The Waves trailed 52-37 with 16:49 to play before mounting their comeback. Colbey Ross led Pepperdine with 21 points and six assists, Trae Berhow had 12 points and seven rebounds, and Kameron Edwards scored 14 points.
Oral Roberts received 17 points, seven rebounds, and five assists from Emmanuel Nzekwesi, 16 points from Albert Owens, 13 points and seven assists from San Kearns, 12 points from Javan White, and 11 points from Austin Ruder.
The all-tournament team of the Subregional Rounds consists of Heidegger, King, Rorie, Ross, and Nzekwesi.
Penn State and Texas A&M still have a Progressive Legends Classic game left on their schedules. On Friday, the Nittany Lions will host Oral Roberts while the Aggies will entertain Pepperdine.
